In the esoteric tradition, the human body has seven main energy centres or chakras. These are located near the base of the spine, the genitals, the navel, the heart, the throat, between the eyebrows, and at the top of the head. Shakti is the Divine Female Principle, the creator of all things in manifestation. The base chakra is the seat of Shakti, whose form is Kundalini, a cosmic force coiled like a serpent at the base of the spine. Through scientific meditation this great power in the human body is awakened. She uncoils herself and rises upwards, transforming each chakra as She ascends, until Shakti is united with Shiva-consciousness, at the top of the head, in Bliss. (Painted in 1964)
